Editorial standards
How SplitPace decides what to publish, who checks it, how we use AI, and what happens when we get something wrong.
SplitPace is new. Its current pages are written with AI assistance and not independently reviewed, and every one of them says so in its byline. We have not engaged writers or professional reviewers yet, so no page carries an individual name.
What we publish, and what we don’t
We publish something because it serves a runner and we believe we can make it genuinely useful — not because other running sites have it. A gap in our coverage is usually a decision. We would rather answer forty questions properly than four hundred approximately.
Attribution
When a named person writes a page, their name is on it and links to a profile listing their credentials and a route to verify them. When no individual is accountable for a page, it says “By SplitPace” rather than inventing someone — a plausible byline attached to nobody is worse than no byline at all.
Independent review
Injury and nutrition content requires independent review by a credentialed professional before publication. Our publishing system will not release a page in those sections without a matching review event, recorded as who reviewed it, on what date, and in what capacity. Those sections are not currently published.
Other content may be published without independent review, and is labelled accordingly: every page that has not been reviewed says “Not independently reviewed” in its byline. Where a page has been reviewed, the reviewer and the date appear on it.
How we use AI
We use AI assistance for research synthesis, outlining, first drafts, structured data and quality checks. We do not use it to decide what is true.
Topic selection and the decision to publish are made by a person, not by a model. Before a page is published it is read against a fixed checklist covering factual accuracy, whether each cited source supports the specific claim it is attached to, whether numbers have a basis, and whether guidance is labelled as fact, evidence-derived, recommendation or example. Citations are located and read against the claims they support. Nothing written in the first person — “we tested”, “in our experience” — is generated.
Current authorship
SplitPace articles are currently published under the SplitPace name rather than individual contributor bylines. Individual authors and reviewers will be named when qualified contributors are formally engaged.
The numbers
Every pace, split, checkpoint and equivalent time on SplitPace is computed by a single library with a published contract and a fixed set of conformance tests. Nobody types a pace into our system by hand, which is why the calculator, the split pages and the articles cannot disagree with each other.
Where a figure comes from a model rather than a measurement — race-time equivalence, for example — we name the model, state the assumption it rests on, and decline to attach a confidence figure we have no basis for.
Corrections
When we get something wrong we fix the page and say what changed. Publication and update dates are shown on every page rather than hidden, so you can see how current something is before you rely on it. Review dates will appear alongside them once there are reviews to date.
Commercial relationships
SplitPace currently has none. If that changes, it will be disclosed on the page it affects and on the profile of anyone involved, and it will never determine what we recommend.
